Who pays for a lost rental car key — me or the rental company?
Usually you, the renter — most UAE rental agreements make the driver responsible for lost keys, and the charge can be steep. That is exactly why calling a mobile key specialist is worth it: we are typically far cheaper than the rental company's own replacement charge. Keep our invoice; some travel insurance policies reimburse key replacement.
Should I call the rental company first?
Yes — always. Some companies will bring you their spare key themselves; others will authorise you to use a locksmith and reimburse or adjust the bill. Get the authorisation in writing (a WhatsApp message from them counts). Then call us with the car's make, model and where it is parked, and we take it from there.
What if I lose the key at the airport before my flight?
Tell us which terminal and parking area you are in — airport jobs are time-critical and we treat them that way. If the car must be returned and your flight is soon, the rental company's own desk is sometimes faster; if you have a few hours, we come to the parking area and make the key there. Either way, call both us and the rental desk immediately.
What documents do you need for a rental car key?
Your passport, the rental agreement showing you as the authorised driver, and ideally the rental company's authorisation to make a key. We check these before starting — the same proof-of-ownership rule as any other car, applied to rentals. Have photos of the agreement ready on your phone.

Rental Car Key Replacement: questions we hear
Can you make a key for a rental car without the rental company's permission?
We need the rental agreement showing you as the driver, and we strongly recommend the company's written authorisation too. It protects you from disputes over the bill later.
The rental company says only the dealer can make the key. Is that true?
Rarely. Dealers are one option, not the only one — we program keys for the same models at the roadside. The exception is a few very new models with restricted security; we will tell you honestly if yours is one.
I need a second key for a long-term rental. Can you make one?
Yes, with the rental company's agreement. Long rentals and monthly leases often benefit from a spare — losing the only key mid-lease is far more expensive than a duplicate now.
What if the key broke rather than got lost?
Keep both pieces. We extract any fragment from the lock or ignition, then cut and program a replacement on the spot — and the rental company gets its car back with a working key.
